Friday 13 is actually a lucky day for me (Denny). Left Atlanta in 40 degree weather and arrived in 80 degree weather . Paul & Chip meet me at the airport and we took the city bus back to the boat. Maxine and  Paul then went back to the airport and picked up Ghada while Chip & I walked around Coconut Grove and looked at boats. Tomorrow it will be the Miami Boat Show.

Today is the day to pick up the guests.  Already made one trip to get Dennis.  Back to the airport to get Ghada this afternoon.  Another beautiful day on the bay.

We may not be the best city slickers.  We attempted to get to the airport via the metrorail to the trirail but the ticket did not work on the tryrail, and it took over 1 hr.  So the nice lady at the station suggested we take the bus from Coconut Grove where the boat is.  It took 10 Min (after the 1 hr ride back).  While at the airport a MTI employee wanted to help us and we talked to him.  Wen he asked and I told him we were staying on a 44' sail boat anchored in the bay, he said "Why are you taking the bus!".  I guess I should have told him there were no canals up the the airport, or did he mean something else?   Good day, we have the code for "Shake-A-Leg-Miami" internet so we have free internet.  We also found a bar restaurant on the water only a few doors down.  So we are all set for our guest.

After looking for a place for Dennis to park we decided it is not practical to park a car here in Coconut Grove.  There are many parking lots but they are all by permit for the Marina, City Hall or somebody.  So we looked at mass transit.  We purchased 7 day Visitor pass for the mass transit which allows us to ride any bus, metro, or trolley for 7 days.  We took a practice ride up to where the Boat Show is going to be held.  It is easy and gets us within 1 block.  The it was use the bus to go to Mary's Laundry Matt to do some needed laundry.  No pictures today because our photographer (Maxine) took a camera with a dead battery.  Maybe we will do better tomorrow.

9 Feb 09 - N 25 43.258 W 080 13.860

Decided to go right past Chub Cay and continue to Miami.  24 hrs and 175 miles later we are anchored at the city marina in dinner key.  Had a full moon so it was like sailing during the day.  We actually sailed all but the last 12 miles, then the Gulf Stream put the winds out of limits.  Now what to do with three days in the great city of Cocoanut Grove.  Ghada and Dennis P are arriving Friday and we will be off the the Boat Show.  Having to use my Cell Phone for internet so you don't get very many pictures.

Arrived at Nassau Harbor about 1300 today.  No room in the Inn  (Nassau Yacht Haven) so we had to anchor in the harbor.  The bottom is very hard so the anchor does not want to hold very good.  We were suppose to have dinner with Niva from the Chat and Chill, but she could not get to town until 9:30 PM (way too late for us) and we do not feel comfortable with leaving the boat without anyone on it due the anchor holding.  So much for seeing Niva before we leave.  Tomorrow it is off to Chub Kay, should be another easy beam reach but being in extremely deep water I expect bigger waves.  Maxine is doing real well, today was not a cake walk and she had no problem, not even a patch.

6 Feb 09 - Words from Maxine

Having a great time. Can't say that I'm much help to the guys.  Only got sick going from Georgetown to Black Pointe. Second sail from Black Pointe to Highborne Cay went better.   We all got to take Hollywood showers at the marina.  Boy did that feel like heaven.  I'm so lucky to have a great friend like Paul .  This is an adventure I will never  forget.  The first photo is a home at Black Pointe, second two at sea, all others Highborne Cay. PS  I might be updating the great adventure part if I get to take the sail across the Gulf.

Arrived at Highborrne Key Marina after a day of sailing into the wind.  Just enough off we could sail most of the way.  Started the generator because we needed to charge the batteries, it quit, started the main engine to charge the batteries, it quit.  OUT OF FUEL!  Well not exactly, we where healed over so far it could not pick up the fuel (still had 60 Gals).  Keep sailing and come up with a plan.  After getting within 6 miles of Highborne key tack so we heal the other way.  Engine started, not without a few tries.  Then while motoring in finally got the generator started.  In the slip now, only thing is the battery charger does not want to work.  What next?  Time to make dinner.

P.S. It is not the Battery Charger/ Inverter because it works with the genset, it was the shore power, all fixed now!

The weather is better today, but Lorrain is not on the island.  She is gong to be back tomorrow morning.  We may stay for another day, or maybe not.  There is a lot of people using the Lorrains' Internet Cafe.  One of the boaters brought a bunch of school supplies for the town.  Things just happen at a different speed here in the islands.

4 Feb 09 - N24 06.119 W 076 24.067

Departed George Town at 0700 this morning.  The sound was lumpy with the winds from 18 - 25 kts right on the nose.  We attempted to motor sail but it was taking longer to get to Black Point and we would have arrived after dark.  So go direct and point directly in the wind and waves, push the motor up to 3000 and arrive about 1700.  Took a wet, no extremely wet dingy ride to town and Lorrain is closed.  Who would be out in this stuff any way?  Only us fools, their is one other boat in the anchorage, but don't even have their dingy down.  So no internet tonight, the TV has been off too long and so it does not work.  I call Rick about the TV and he is going to call Direct in a while so I hope we will get it going later.  That' it for now.

3 Feb 09 - 2200

Had a fantastic dinner at Trevia.  Fish, Steak, and the trimmings (the best soup, bread, roasted vegetables) . and of course beer, wine, coffee, tea, and soda, what ever fit your fancy.  Plan to leave tomorrow, expect a bumpy ride, but we are making way.

3 Feb 09 - 1500

Got our internet up and running last night.  Sure it nice to be able to log on from any computer on the boat.  Spent the day trying to get Trevia's WIFI working.  Thought I had lost my mind, but found that Harbor-WIFI went down as we went over there.  Now they are all hooked up.  Had wires running all over Woody's bridge.  At least he has a bridge to do that to.  Trying to make up our mind on when to leave.  It is never going to be nice, so I suggest we just go for it.  We have been invited over to Trevia for dinner this evening.  Sounds like a good send off dinner.  It has been a little lumpy here in the harbor but it is starting to subside.

2 Feb 09  - 1600

Arrived back at  the boat and met by Maxine and Chip.  Sure is nice to be back in the warm weather.  Hate to think I need to start back.  Got the internet working on the boat, that makes Chip happy, and me.  Finish a few things up today and start off to Black Point tomorrow (weather permitting).  Sorry no pictures today, I will be back in the swing of things in a while.
